    NFTRC Attends Farmers Field Day

National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) attended this year’s Mmalore Farmers Field Day on Wednesday 27, May 2015.

The event, which is held every year, is an opportunity for farmers to celebrate harvest, discuss emerging challenges and exchange knowledge on improving arable farming, was held under the theme, “Always a farmer under all conditions”.

In his key note address, Integrated Support for Arable Agricultural Development (ISPAAD) Coordinator, Mr Lepodisi Telekelo applauded farmers for organising the event even during hard times when there is minimal or no harvest.

Mr Telekelo said farming challenges are increasing every year because of the harsh climatic conditions, and urged farmers to use modern methods of farming and high breed seeds to continue producing good harvests. He also urged farmers to collaborate with others from different regions to exchange knowledge. He encouraged Batswana to continue utilising ISPAAD to increase harvest.

Meanwhile, the farmers were advised to venture into food processing to help Botswana become food secure. NFTRC showcased its products and services at the event.
