Training/Skills Transfer in Food & Agro-Processing Services

NFTRC has established a vocational training programme to equip entrepreneurs with food and agro-processing skills using its research and development outputs. The programme, training facilities and training personnel have been accredited by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA). The course are delivered by NFTRC’s qualified research professionals, and they include Processing of Meat Products, Processing of Fruits and Vegetables, Processing of Cereal Products, Processing of Dairy Products, Processing of Oilseeds (peanut butter and oil), Processing of Legumes and Pulses, Handling and Processing of Honey, Packaging of Food Grains, and Food Safety Management. Specific topics covered in each food processing course include, but are not limited to, Botswana Food Legislations, Hygiene and Sanitation, Basic Principles of Food Processing, Product Manufacturing Equipment Requirements, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazzard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Hands-on Demonstration Sessions. Participants that complete a course are issued with a certificate of attendance. This programme is offered to the business sector and the general public to stimulate and grow enterprises in agro-processing.

All food processing courses are currently resident at NFTRC, and last for five days each.  Registration fee for each course is P2 000 per participant (fees still under review). Registration fee covers course materials, morning and afternoon tea and lunch.  Participants cover their accommodation costs.  Accommodation is offered by hotels, lodges and guest houses in Kanye and surroundings, which charge rates that range from P500 to P700 per night.
