    26 Trained on Introduction to Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics

    National  Food  Technology  Research  Centre  (NFTRC) trained twenty two members of staff, three officers from the Ministry Of Health & Wellness  (MoHW) and one representative from  the  Ministry  of  Agricultural Development  and  Food  Security on Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics from 6th– 17th August 2018.

    The training was organised by Nutrition and Dietetics department as a gesture from International Atomic Energy Agency.  It was facilitated by Professor Nazarius  Mbona Tumwesigye  and  Professor  Fredrick  Makumbi  from Makerere University in Uganda, Kampala.

    The  objective  of  the  training  was  to  expose  the project  team  to  the  principle  of  Biostatistics  and learn  how  they  can  use  it  on  their  day  to  day research work as well as analysing results.

    When  introducing  the  first  part  of  the  training, Professor Tumwesigye  said that the training was to  define  bio-statistics,  explain  basic  concepts  in biostatistics,  the  application  of  biostatistics  and scales of measurement.

    The  second  part  of  the  training  covered  various topics  such  as  Data  Management,  Presentation, and Probability Distribution.

    The training also comprised of short quizzes, group discussions, assignments and presentations.

    During certificates awarding, NFTRC Director of Research and Development Dr Bernard Bulawayo applauded  the  attendees  for  their  endurance  stating that  it  is  crucial  for  the  attendees  to  have  a  deeper understanding  on  statistical  analysis  as  it  has  high impact on journals.

    NFTRC Nutrition and Dietetics-Principal Research Scientist, Dr  Boitumelo  Stokie  Motswagole  thanked  the Professors  for  their  easy  going  and  willingness  to share knowledge throughout the training.
