    MoA Public Enterprises Open Day Takes Serowe By Storm

    National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) and other Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security (MoA) Public Enterprises of Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN), Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB), Botswana Meat Commission (BMC), Botswana Horticultural Market (BHM) and Botswana Vaccine Institute (BVI), recently held an Open Day at Serowe Show Grounds.

    The, purpose of the event, which was held under the theme: “Agriculture First, Be Innovative”, was for the enterprises to showcase their products, services and their linkages in furthering Botswana’s agricultural sector agenda.

    The guest speaker, MoA Minister Mr Patrick Ralotsia said the Public Enterprises (PEs) are the go-between that joins the ministry and its stakeholders as an auxiliary to government`s effort of taking its services to the people.

    Mr Ralotsia said he was gratified that all the PEs are very competitive and well-recognised internationally, therefore it is high time Batswana worked hand in hand with them to better their lives and the food status of the country.

    NFTRC went all out, pushing indigenous food products and had the opportunity to carry out a consumer sensory evaluation of Sorghum Muffins and Watermelon Drink as well as providing 2000 units of bottled water and 200 Morula Drinks.

    Apart from its commercial spin-off National Agro-Processing (NAPro), NFTRC brought along two of its trained entrepreneurs, who are currently running their businesses, being Otsosa Nna le Wena (Fruit and Vegetable products) and Dune Foods (of Setso Canned Serobe) to prove the viability of NFTRC technologies.

    The event was graced by distinguished guests such as Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane, Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Mr Kgotla Autlwetse, MoA Permanent Secretary Mr. Boipolelo Khumomatlhare, Chief Executives of all the MoA PEs, the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Representative, Mr David Tibe and Director of Poverty Eradication Unit Ms Gaokgakala Rammidi.

    The minister also performed a ground breaking for the the MoA PEs pledged public toilets at Serowe Show Grounds.
