Southern Region Cluster Councils Market Day

National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) was amongst organisations that supported the Southern Region Cluster Councils Market Day on August 11, where organisations and departments showcased their products and services.

The partakers at this event were Southern Region councils being Kgalagadi District Council, Lobatse Town Council, Jwaneng Town Council and Southern District Council, which was the host. The theme for the event was “Celebrating 50 years of innovation and talent of small entrepreneurs towards sustainable and competitive market”.

Mr. Alec Seametso, the Vice Chairperson of Southern Region, said the theme was appropriate as it challenged the entrepreneurs to be wise in their decisions-, get appropriate information to mould themselves, and to stop pointing fingers at the government for lack of jobs but create their own.

He said as it is evident that not all youth would have formal employment, government came up with initiatives that the youth could take up and create employment for themselves and others, gives testimony of their business. They said their business is doing very well with the help of the Nyeletso Lehuma (Poverty Eradication) programme, as she sells fat cakes and serobe.

Most of the participants who visited the NFTRC stall were fascinated by morama products and canned meat products.

They promised to visit the Centre in the near future.
