    NFTRC at Ngwaketse Agricultural Show

National Food Technology Research Centre (NFTRC) last week Friday and Saturday exhibited its products and services at the Ngwaketse Agricultural Show held at Kanye show grounds.

The show was attended by different government departments and private companies as well as different exhibitors who came to showcase their products.

Many Batswana brought forth their best for competitions. However the turn up for the show was not good on Friday compared to Saturday.

When giving his keynote address, former Minister of Agriculture Mr. Christian De Graaff said the southern region is doing well in arable farming compared to Gantsi region which is doing much better in livestock farming.

Mr. De Graaff challenged Batswana to produce enough food to protect national food security, adding that in a couple of months, Botswana will be celebrating her jubilee and Batswana  will have to be prepared and to celebrate with food that originates from Botswana.

He further encouraged the attendants to use technology to improve production of animals and foo, adding that productivity begins with one step.

Mr. De Graaff said though climatic weather conditions have affected the production rate, it is great to find out that there are those who managed to utilise the little rain to plough and bring forth outstanding produce.

Kanye South Member of Parliament Mr. Abram Kesupile said he was grateful for the show. Mr Kesupile said the show needs to be extended to cater for more activities other than farming.

Many show goers visited the NFTRC stall to appreciate its products and services. They showed keen interest in the sorghum flour and morama products. People from the Kgalagadi region were very excited about morama products saying they will visit NFTRC offices to learn more about the products as morama is abundant in their region.
